Vilagarcía cancels Mägo de Oz for insulting Sánchez and "trivializing" drugs and prostitution.

The municipal government of Vilagarcía de Arousa has decided to cancel the concert that Mägo de Oz was scheduled to give on August 19 in the town, following statements made this week by guitarist Víctor de Andrés during a performance in Asturias: "I'm going to tell you one thing so that this never happens again in history. I don't care who governs, stop stealing from us, especially our cocaine and our whores."
The Socialist government maintains that the group was invited for their professional career and artistic prowess, not for their "political opinions, which are free, whether you like them or not." Furthermore, in his speech, Andrés not only spoke about sexual exploitation and drug use, but also addressed the Prime Minister: "Sánchez, retweet this shit, I want to be famous again, I curse your dead, assholes."
The group argues that these were humorous phrases intended to give a sarcastic portrayal of reality, in the context of a speech the guitarist routinely delivers at some point during concerts. However, the municipal government's statement, supported by the BNG (National Liberation Front), notes that "no matter how much it is disguised as supposed humor, trivializations about prostitution or drug use are unacceptable," and that "it does not seem very appropriate to insult a Prime Minister, regardless of his or her name or political affiliation. However, it is unacceptable to try to trivialize or trivialize two such sensitive issues."
The Vilagarcía City Council contacted the band to request a public rectification and warn them that the booking process for the concert was not finalized. Despite Víctor de Andrés posting a video explaining his position, no such rectification has been issued, so their concert has ultimately been canceled.
Mägo de Oz's replacements will be Toreros Muertos , and other singers who will be in Vilagarcía this summer include Ainhoa Arteta and David Bustamante, "and other performances will be revealed in the coming days," municipal sources said in a statement.
The only member of Mägo de Oz who has publicly distanced himself from Víctor de Andra's statements has been fellow guitarist Jorge Salán, who stated on social media: "Regarding the mess that's been made with the video, I don't support that kind of talk; I never have, and I never will. Those of you who have followed my career know the messages I've always conveyed through my lyrics, my guitar, and my music."
